The KPS-Small Enterprise and Economic Development Inc. (KPS-SEED) actually grew from the Savings and Loan Program (SLP)
of the Katotohanan, Pagkakaisa, at Serbisyo, Inc. (KPS) that began in 1997. This was in response to the urgent need of pooling
some funds to directly purchase (through negotiations) lands to be used as relocation sites for urban poor who were victims
of house demolition and eviction.
Thus, KPS-SEED traces its historical roots from the struggles of the KPS, Inc. an urban poor People Organization (PO) and
a quasi-federation of urban and rural POs that developed from the painful and violent struggle of the poor of Gen. Santos
City for secure land tenure and decent housing. The sturggle that started in 1986 continued and made KPS a responsible organization
that has been taking on the causes, issues, and needs of the vulnerable and disadnatage urban poor sector.
